Margot McDonnell is a local during the summer when she moves here from Scottsdale. She grew up with an intense interest in art, music, theater and writing. The quilting bug bit her along the way and like many other fabric fanatics, she took the traditional route until one night on eBay when she spotted a tiny black and white snapshot of a wintery backyard. At that moment she switched gears and her quilting took off in a new direction.
Since then, her ribbon-winning pieces have appeared in Paducah, Houston, Portland, Chicago, Minneapolis, Phoenix and Ontario, California as well as in Quilting Arts Calendar and in magazines.

In Janet’s class we learned rug hooking; which, was incorporated into a wool project.

MARLA HATTABAUGH
Quilting is one of Marla’s main obsessions/passions. She says:
“It gives me friends, laughter, visual stimulation, travel opportunities, and alone time. Sometimes the challenge of getting the top to lay smooth regardless of how many seams come together is a great problem; other times everything goes together so smoothly that the 30 years I’ve spent doing it seems warranted!”
Most of the fabric Marla uses is hand processed, dyed using Procion MX, silk screened, deconstructed, painted, stamped and otherwise done as one of a kind project. Surface design is a source of delight to Marla and she finds exactly the right color/shape for a spot in a quilt.

Cindy Seitz-Krug
Unfortunately, Cindy’s Monday lecture was cancelled, along with the TBQ meeting due to snow and ice. She was however, able to conduct her full-day class, “Fun Fillers and Background Stitches” on Tuesday. In this class participants learned 8 different free motion background stitches. The sample pieces were the beginning of a Christmas stocking or a wall hanging which members were able to finish at home after the class.
Victoria Findley Wolfe
My approach to QUILTING is very much the way I draw. I use warm up exercises to get me started… 15 minutes at a time…15 minutes of “play” and inevitably a QUILT idea emerges.I love QUILTING for myself and I love QUILTING for other people. It makes me very happy to be commissioned to make a QUILT for someone who I know will cherish it. A QUILT I have made keeps me attached to the people who live with it and that, besides my loving family, brings me the greatest joy.

P.I.G. Challenge 2018
Members were asked to bring two unfinished Projects in Grocery sacks to the January 2018 meeting. They shared their projects on design walls and the membership voted on which of the two UFOs they were to complete by the December 2018 meeting. 14 members participated in the P.I.G. challenge.
Jim and Kate Carroll
Jim and Kate Carroll lectured on “What to Do with That Great Old Stuff”. They had a wonderful collection of vintage fabrics, buttons, tops and blocks to show and tell. They shared ideas of how to put these treasures to good use.
Janet Davis
Janet Davis from Alamosa, Colorado was our guest lecturer. For several years, she owned the quilt shop in Alamosa. Her quilts have been accepted in many national quilt shows including the AQS show in Paducah. She taught a well-received New York Beauty freezer paper foundation piecing class while here.
Helen Young Frost
Helen Frost Young was our guest lecturer. Helen began quilting in 1972 and began teaching in 1974. She and her mother, Blanche Young, developed new strip-pieced methods for making traditional designs including the Lone Star. She brought a trunk full of Lone Star quilts to show and her witty sense of humor.
Workshop attendees learned the technique of strip-pieceing Lone Star blocks.
