A friendship group within a quilt guild is a smaller circle of members who gather regularly outside of the formal monthly meetings. Also known as “small groups” and “mini groups,” these social groups allow members of a larger guild to build deeper relationships, share specialized skills, and collaborate on projects or community service. Friendship groups usually meet on a set schedule once or twice a month. The size of the friendship group is kept intentionally small sometimes due to space constraints and also to help strengthen the bonds between its members.
Coordinator: Dana Swain
The following Friendship Groups are currently meeting within the Thumb Butte Quilters’ Guild. Any member of the guild can form a friendship group and, in fact, we encourage more groups! If you’re interested but just don’t know where or how to start, please contact Dana Swain at the phone or email listed in the TBQ directory and she will help you get started. Should you be interested in joining one of these groups, please contact the guild member listed. If the group is shown as full, you are still encouraged to connect with the current contact listed for inspiration to create your own NEW group!
“Appliquettes” – Contact Susan Sweet
This group remains vital but is closed due to space constraints.
“Crazy Quilters” – Contact Kathleen Bond
This group meets monthly to work on crazy quilts. The group is full currently.
The “Cut-Ups” – Contact Jamie Davis
This is a group of quilters who enjoy using the “AccuQuilt” fabric cutting system to prepare fabric for piecing. Member Jamie has many of the cutting dies and shares her expertise on using the AccuQuilt machine. The group is currently re-starting, so you are encouraged to contact Jamie to join the group.
“Dear Jane”
This group no longer meets. However, if there is interest in starting it up again, member Kathleen Bond can be contacted as a resource to help re-start the friendship group. “Featherweights” – Contact Carolyn Edwards
This group remains vital but is closed to new members at this time.
“Featherweights” – c0ntact Carolyn Edwards
This group gathers to meet on the fourth Thursday of each month starting at 9:00. The members bring their own hand-work projects. The Featherweights meet on the couches near the fireplace at the Pine Ridge Marketplace (formally, the Gateway Mall). Many of the members will go out to lunch after gathering. Guild members are welcome to join anytime.
“In Stitches” – Contact Carolyn Edwards or Kathy Beeson
This group is currently closed to new members. It meets on the fourth Monday evening beginning at 5:30.
“Quilts of Valor” & “Honor Flight” – Contact Angela Smith and Norma Enfield
This friendship group meets monthly to create quilts to present to these two organizations that support our country’s veterans. [Note: Arizona Freedom Quilts #546 is part of the Quilts of Valor Foundation and is a separate entity from TBQG.] There is nothing more satisfying than making quilts that go to those who have served our country. Participants are encouraged to join on the third Saturday of each month from 9:00 to noon at the Elks Lodge in Prescott Valley. Interested guild members can show up all or part of the time each month. Bring your machine and sewing tools.
“Scattered Threads” – Contact Carolyn Edwards
This friendship group focuses on handwork, but occasionally sewing machines are brought in. Members bring their own projects to work on, and the group also enjoys “show and tell”. This group meets on the first Wednesday of the month starting at 9:00 AM at the Prescott Country Club Community Room.
