President’s message: Jamie Davis called the meeting to order at 9:30 A.M.
· Jamie Introduced herself as the new President and encouraged everyone’s involvement and volunteering to help our Guild.
· Reminder that our meeting needs to be completed by 12:00 noon.
· Agenda for the July General Meeting minutes were presented for approval. Motion made to accept the minutes made by Sharon Harris; Seconded by Carrie Casto. Motion carried.
· Jamie announced her choice for the President’s Challenge this year is making lap-sized (3-yard) quilts for the Hopi Reservation. Information to follow on the website.
Membership Report: Alicia announced that today we took in five new members and three guests. Reminder to pick up membership booklets.
Community Service Report:
· Sheryl shared that the Guild donated 805 items last year. This past month we donated seven quilts to ALS Support Group and eight quilts to the Blankets for Kids program.
· Sheryl asked us to keep Kristine in our prayers as she is recovering from surgery.
· Kits are available now for quilt tops.
· Quilts are available for top quilting. (Batting will be available next month.)
· Reminder to connect with Angela if you are interested in making donations for Quilts of Valor and the Honor Flight program.
Newcomers Report: Mary Ellen reminded the Guild that all are invited to attend their gatherings when projects are made. Watch the website for upcoming gatherings. All members are encouraged to join or start new Friendship Groups when they join the Guild.
Ways & Means Report: Introduction of Gerry Carr, Carol Grimes and Lydia Figueroa, the new team. They will be making known opportunities in the year ahead to raise funds for our Guild. Please share your ideas with them.
Workshops: Kathleen announced the upcoming workshops for sign-ups TODAY:
· September – Jennifer Wagner will teach a color class on Monday afternoon, September 8th held at the Elks Club with pizza lunch provided. Cost $20.00. Sign-ups today. Jennifer will also provide a full-day workshop on Tuesday, September 9th on applique called “Many Moons”. This class will be held at the Trinity Presbyterian Church. Cost $35.00.
· October – Ken Casey will teach two classes as well. One will be a color class after the general meeting on October 13th held at Coco’s Prescott Quilt Works. Cost $20.00. A full-day class called “Which Way Did They Go?” highlighting the Flying Geese block method will be offered on Tuesday, October 14th at Trinity Presbyterian Church. Cost $35.00.
Programs: Deb introduced today’s presenter, member Shirlee Smith.
Break: Jamie announced a 20-minute break. Reminder to stop at the Community Service table, shop at the Company Store, sign up for workshops, purchase the birthday raffle tickets, and participate in the Block of the Month program.
Meeting called back to order:
· Pam from the Company Store announced that the Guild has received a large donation of fabric and tools. Only half of the items were set out today. Please come prepared to shop again next month. Thank you for your purchases today.
· Faith spoke to the members regarding hospitality going forward this year. We are encouraging all members to bring their own water bottles. Snacks should be “finger food”. Please check for your name in the membership booklet to participate once a year.
· Suzie Davidson announced that an email blast went out to encourage our members to participate in the Yavapai County Fair coming up later this month. Registration is available online or at drop off on August 25th and 26th at the Rodeo grounds.
· Jamie announced that the Guild will be looking for volunteers to take on the task of creating the 2027 Opportunity Quilt committee. Please see her if you’re interested.
· Jamie is hoping to recruit a “party planner” who will work alongside Deb Johnson with planning the July and December parties. Please contact Jamie or Deb if you are interested.
· Sign-ups will begin next month for RETREAT LITE. Once again, this two-day retreat will be held at Trinity Presbyterian Church on October 20 and 21. Cost $15.00.
Block of the Month Raffle
· Angela had eight blocks to raffle off today. Due to the number of members who forgot their blocks this month, she will hold another raffle next month.
· New block for the next month “Eccentric Star” was shown to members. Can be done in two or three colors. See the website for details. Size: 12” finished block.
Birthday Drawing
· Arleen and her team raffled off 12 gifts this month. Arleen reminded all members if you forget your birthday gift, just bring it to the next meeting.
Show and Tell – ten members shared their quilts and projects.
Added Reminders:
· Kathleen reminded members to sign up today for the September workshops.
· Jamie showed the Guild the “Dammit Doll” which has been in storage for many years. She will be disposing of it at the end of her term. Let her know if you’re interested in keeping it.
· Angela reminded the members that there will be an All-Women Honor Flight recognition, and they will accept patriotic (red/white/blue) lap quilts. See Angela for further details.
· Member Chris Sommerfelt will be having an art show. Contact Chris for details.
