FEBRUARY 10, 2025 – JEAN IMPEY
Monday, February 10 (afternoon) “The Magic of Fabulous Faces”
What happens when two inspiring and energetic artists, combine their love of quilting, friendship, and talents? Creativity explodes into a one-of-a-kind workshop…
Renowned quilters Freddy Moran (94 years old) and Jean Impey joined their creative spirits back in 2017 when they agreed to teach a Collage Retreat. Each artist has their own unique style of portraits, and each portrait has a unique story and name.
This is an IN PERSON WORKSHOP ONLY.
Freddy and Jean have developed this workshop and both teach it independently for now. Their process requires a glue stick and basic design principles. They both create their own faces and Jean quilts and finisesh all of her own as well as Freddy’s using her own techniques for quilting: “Pencil Quilting” and “Sketchy Quilting.”
Jean would dare to claim this workshop promises to be the most enjoyable one yet! Dive into the art of crafting expressive faces with ease and minimal materials. Then, uncover her unique quilting techniques to bring your design to life, from quilting to binding.
Here are a few of the Jean’s portraits… designed, created and quilted by Jean:
Tuesday, February 11 – Spider Web (full day class)
The Spider Web Quilt has been around for hundreds of years and there are many ways to make one. Jean has come up with a quick and accurate method using your scraps of fabric to create a unique quilt. The great thing about the spider web block is that it can be made traditional, modern, or liberated. Learn new techniques that will improve your speed, and accuracy which will apply to all of your quilt projects.
Bring your favorite fabrics and scraps whether it’s contemporary, modern, traditional, hand dyes, tonal, batiks, or thimbleberries – it looks best when you throw in everything…. Jean’s first Spider Web has over 280 different fabrics – not including the crazy pieced kites. It was so exciting that she has made more than a dozen more.
In her one-day class, you will have enough time to make a pillow (check out student class work below) and then if you love the process, you can continue on and make the whole quilt. It’s fun, it’s creative, and you’ll learn techniques that you will continue to use on other quilts you make. There is a $12.00 Kit Fee which includes your own Plexiglass Kite-Shaped Template.
